  Kademlia -- UDP Activity

Category: P2P

This event indicates that a Kademlia protocol-based P2P application is attempting to access its P2P network, like eMule or MLdonkey. An application using a Kademlia-based protocol doesn't use servers, instead it uses peers. P2P applications like this one are primarily used for file sharing. This sort of network usage may be against policy on your network.

Kademlia is a defined framework for a peer-to-peer network, supporting a routing algorithm based on the XOR metric.

This SonicWALL signature can identify the presence of P2P applications running on the internal network and attempting to contact peers on the external network. It may be enabled for detection and prevention.
