Application: Apple Push Notifications

Apple Push Notification (APN) is the sanctioned communications channel between Apple backend infrastructure and the applications that you run on your Apple iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, Macbooks, etc. A push notification is an asynchronous notification that comes from the external network to your device to alert your apps to events to which you have subscribed. For example you receive push notifications when someone posts a status update to Facebook, when somebody has sent you a text message, etc.
